Leschyshyn along with Chris Simon, were traded to the Washington Capitals in early November for Keith Jones and draft picks.  The Capitals traded Leschyshyn  one week later to the Hartford Whalers.

The 96-97 season was the year Miller earned his spot in the Avs regular defensive rotation, where he would stay until he and Adam Deadmarsh were traded to the Los Angeles Kings for future HOF defenseman, Rob Blake.
